"That woman, that… feline!" Doctor Doppler ranted. He, Jim and Hannah were tramping down the steps that lead to the galley with Mr. Arrow behind them, "Who does she think is working for whom?"

"It's my map," Jim put in, "And she's got me busting tables."

"And I was hired as a part of this crew! Now all I'm gonna do is serve soup?"
Hannah exclaimed when Mr. Arrow seemed to have heard enough of the subject.

"I'll not tolerate a crossword about our captain," he demanded as he gripped their shoulders. He was definitely strong- in appearance and in his voice too. But he was a loyal companion, no doubt about that, "There's no finer officer in this or any galaxy."

Embarrassed about the ranting, they rubbed the backs of their necks. Before anything else was said, they heard whistling in the back of the room. Jim couldn't see the person clearly because of the steam coming from a stove in the center of the kitchen.

"Mr. Silver," said Arrow addressing the stranger.

"Why, Mr. Arrow sir!" said the cook, cleaning his hands on his greasy apron. He stepped out of the steam and bowed, "Bringin' such fine-lookin' and distinguished guests as to grace my humble galley, had I known, I'd 'ave tucked in me shirt."

Jim stared at the man… But he's not a man. he thought, completely bewildered. The cook's entire right half was made out of mechanics. His leg was bulky like his normal one, but air compressed and only a peg for foot. The arm was made out of the same material and went all the way to his shoulder. They had gears, joints and parts he'd never seen before, on any machine. But the eye, the eye was the most unusual. Yellow light came from it, and tiny individual lenses could be seen on the inside. And on the side of his face were more pulleys and gears that aided him in rotating it. There was no mistaking it. He let in a small gasp.

"The cyborg," he whispered, eyes wide in realization. He turned to look at Hannah, but none of this skeptical seemed to have phased her.

"May I introduce Doctor Doppler," Mr. Arrow gestured, "The financier of our voyage," The Doc stepped forward and nodded his head in greeting.

"Lovely outfit, Doc," Silver said, changing the setting of his eye. He was observing his suit when Delbert spoke.

"Well thank you… um," he said nervously, "Love the eye," Hannah was shaking her head when Delbert grabbed Jim, "This young lad is Jim Hawkins."

He maneuvered him in front of the cook and Hannah followed behind. Silver took a step forward and held out his hand, covered with sharp objects.

"Jimbo!" he greeted. He looked down at his hand, and seeing his mistake, quickly changing it back to normal form. Jim looked at the hand then glared at the cyborg. He was a large man, with his belly folding over his trousers. He had a wrinkled face and plump arms, but despite his disposition he seemed very friendly. But Jim would not take his "hand". Silver then looked over to the girl behind him and smiled.

"Hannah, me lass!" exclaimed Silver. She smiled and raised her hand for a hello. He continued, "I haven't seen yer pretty face since we last met on port a couple days ago."

She rolled her eyes at his comment, but enjoyed it anyway. Jim glanced at the two of them. They already know each other? He thought. He turned to face the cyborg again. His stiff position was noticeable, but Silver gave a grin and walked towards the counter.

"Ah, now, don't be too put off by this hunk o' hardware," he changed his hand to kitchen equipment and started cutting and slicing the foods in front of him. It was very impressive how he handled all the materials. His hand quickly changed again, then began to mince more of his ingredients. He suddenly raised his good arm, which was void of a hand, "Whoa!" But his hand reappeared from his sleeve and kept going. Hannah shook her head at his attempt for a laugh, but Jim was still cautious.

"These gears 'ave been tough getting' used to. But they do come in mighty handy from time to time," he grabbed the pan full of his ingredients, changed his hand yet again, but this time into a flame that heated the recipe. He finished by dumping it into a pot on the stove and seasoning it. He took a taste test, grinned in delight and poured some into bowls for the guests to enjoy.

"Here now," Silver gave them their meals, "Have a taste of me famous 'Bonzabeast Stew.'"

The Doc sniffed the concoction then started licking it up, "Mmm!" he hummed, licking his lips, "Delightfully tangy, yet robust."

"Ol' family recipe."

He was about to eat more, when an eyeball floated to the surface.

"Aah!"

"In fact," Silver began, "that was part of the ol' family!" He then laughed at his own joke. It was a hearty laugh, too, but Delbert did not seem amused at all, "Oh, just kiddin' Doc.," he took the eyeball and ate it for himself in one swallow. Silver then turned to Hannah, "You remember this don't ya? I made this same stew for ya when I saw yer pretty self by the docks."

"Mm-hm," was all she said. By the look on her face, it wasn't a pleasant experience. She stirred the stew around, but never ate it. Silver stepped towards Jim.

"Go on, Jimbo. 'Ave a swig," he insisted. Jim picked up a spoon full of the mush, but wasn't eager to eat any of it.

Then suddenly, the mouth of the spoon closed, and eyes appeared! He gasped, then it swallowed the food and transformed into a glob of pink plasma.

"Morph!" Silver exclaimed, "You jigger-headed blob o' mischief. So that's where you was hidin'."

The pink blob then changed into a straw, landed in Jim's bowl and sucked the rest of his stew. It peered over the rim of the bowl, looking satisfied with his serving. It looked over at Hannah, its face lit up and darted to her. It licked her cheek in recognition.

"Hey, Morph. How've you been?" she petted the glob, then it turned towards Jim and rubbed against his face. He smiled and stared at it.

"What is that thing?" he asked.

"What is that thing?" the blob imitated. He touched it and it transformed into a mini version of him!

"He's a morph," Silver explained, "I rescued teh little shape-shifter on Proteous 1," The morph changed back to its original form, licked his cheek and returned to its rescuer. Morph started rubbing against Silver's face when he continued, "He took a sight to me. We've been together ever since."

He seemed to really enjoy his pet. He murmured to it softly as a bell rang from on deck.

"We're about to get under way," said Mr. Arrow, "Would you like to observe the launch, Doctor?" he gestured towards the steps.

"Would I?" Delbert asked, "Does an active Galactic Nucleus have superluminal jets?" Mr. Arrow only gave him an uninterested look. He realized his failure at making a clever remark then cleared his throat, "I'll follow you."

Delbert began ascending the steps. Jim and Hannah were about to follow when Arrow block their way.

"Mr. Hawkins and Miss Hannah will stay here, in your charge Mr. Silver."

Silver was eating his stew when the command was made and spit it out in shock.

"Beggin' yer pardon sir, but eh…"

"Captain's orders," he cut in, "See to it that the cabin boy and girl are kept busy. First I need Miss Hannah to finish what she started on deck," he added, "When you are finished, see to it that you make your way back here for further assignments from Mr. Silver."

She looked back at Jim then followed Doctor Doppler and Mr. Arrow. Jim and Silver were trying to make excuses, but seeing there was no use, sighed and pinched the bridges of their nose. Hannah turned again when she was on the steps. She shrugged at Jim, unable to think of anything encouraging to say.

"See you on deck," she said and climbed the stairs, leaving only Jim and Silver in the galley. A cautious conversation emerged by Jim, but he didn't get all the information he wanted out of the cyborg. A whistle was blown and Mr. Arrow announced their departure.

"Off with ya lad," Silver insisted, "And watch the launch. There'll be plenty work awaitin' fer ya afterwards."

And with that, Jim made his way on deck. Anything to get him away from that stranger would do him good. The encounter with the cyborg gave him a lot to think about as far as this journey goes. Was he really the cyborg that burned down my family's Inn? He thought. But all those questions vanished from his mind when he saw all the excitement going around outside.
